Jospeter Mbuba, associate professor of public policy, published an article in the Volume 11, Issue 1, Spring 2018 issue of the African Journal of Criminology and Justice Studies. The article is titled, What if the Officer Were Black or Female? The Effects of Officer Race and Gender on Arrest Decision-Making.
Lidan Lin, professor of English and linguistics, published an essay in the Journal of East-West Thought in December of 2017. The essay is titled, The Novel or the Garden? Boprges’ Postmodern Dialogue with China.
Alan Legg, visiting assistant professor of mathematics, and Yuan Zhang, associate professor of mathematics, gave invited presentations in the special session on Several Complex Variables at the March 2018 Central Sectional Meeting of the American Mathematical Society in Columbus, Ohio. Legg presented Quadrature Domains for the Bergman Space in Several Complex Variables. Zhang presented CR Immersions between Spheres with Degenerate CR Guass Maps.
Fort Wayne Men’s Volleyball had ten student-athletes selected to the 2018 Academic All-MIVA Team. The Midwestern Collegiate Volleyball Association made the announcement on May 7. Student-athletes must have at least at 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the fall semester to be eligible. The students selected are: Kade Bontrager (freshman, mechanical engineering), Alex Dickman (junior, mechanical engineering), Richie Diedrich (sophomore, management), Austin Gerwig (freshman, biology pre medicine), Max Hansen (junior, dental hygiene), Michael Keegan (junior, general studies), Kolbie Knorr (junior, general studies), Austin Neace (junior, finance), Colton Stone (junior, management), and Pelegrin Vargas (sophomore, communication).
Shaina Eyre (freshman, biology) was named the Summit League’s Pitcher of the Week on April 30. She earned the award after not allowing an earned run in a complete game victory over North Dakota State. This is her first career Pitcher of the Week honor.
Dong Chen, professor of civil engineering and Zesheng Chen, assistant professor of computer science, have been selected for and AI for Earth Microsoft Azure Grant of up to $15,000 on May 6. The name of their project is, AI for Earth/Esri: A Real-Time Water Body Monitoring System.
Bailey Benefiel (senior, general studies), Maria Palmegiani (sophomore, civil engineering), and Lacey Wilzbacher (junior, marketing) were named to the All-League Softball Second Team on May 8. Benefiel finished the season third overall in wins and strikeouts. Palmegiani ranks in the top 20 in the league in multiple offensive categories, including batting average, on-base percentage, home runs, doubles, RBIs, and runs. Wilzbacher ranks in the top 20 in the league in total bases, walks, hit by pitch, doubles, RBIs, and runs.
