Stephen Ziegler, associate professor of public policy and Mayday Pain & Society Fellow, will give an invited talk at the “Responsible Pain Management: Managing State Risks and Rewards” conference organized by the National Conference of State Legislatures. The event takes place May 13-14 in New Orleans.

From the panel description:
Chronic pain is a serious condition that affects over 100 million people in the United States. In addition to its economic, personal, and societal costs, finding effective treatments can be challenging to health care providers. This session will provide attendees with a health policy approach to understanding pain, its treatment, costs, and challenges. Panelists will also discuss some policy options available to improve pain management in your state and reducing the harm associated with the use of prescription opioids.
Representatives from Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin will attend the conference.
