Sherrie Steiner leads students in two service learning projects

Students in several courses taught by Sherrie Steiner, assistant professor of sociology, will take on service learning projects in Allen and Blackford county this semester.

The students in two Principles of Sociology courses will document four sustainability projects in Allen County for a book on Indiana’s bicentennial. Students will conduct photo essays documenting the urban farming collective, trees Indiana, Fort Wayne Metals and Fort Wayne Green Fleet.

In the second project, students in the Collective Behavior and Social Movements course will continue a service learning collaboration with Blackford County Concerned Citizens to extend the investigation of industrial sites and environmental hazards in Blackford County. The first round of work on this project was done during the 2015 spring semester by her Environmental Sociology students.
